Just saying that the amount of guns does not equal the amount of crime, and many studies indicate that more guns in the hands of law-abiding people equals LESS crime.
All of which must be factored, however, by the basic culture of the community, which I feel that the stats show is a far bigger factor than the amount of guns around.

one thing about switzerland: they are really paranoid about defending their country, although they have not been attacked since hundreds of years - if ever. and the fact that almost every citizen has a gun at home is not because he needs it to defend his home, it's cause the government wants them to have it in case Switzerland is being attacked. totally different mindset.
