Some beer is meant to be drank warm, some beer is meant to be drank near freezing. Other beer it doesn't matter as long as it's cold.
The ice + water + salt trick is the best one. Takes about 5 minutes to make a 6pack VERY cold.
It doesn't just make the ice melt, it lowers the melting point of ice so it can't freeze and the frozen water mixes with the cold water - speeding up the cooling process.
