So why does the price of petrol consistently go up before a major holiday? Or even the weekend? Hello?

There was a place just outside of the town I live in that changed their prices twice a day. They are in a prime spot and are the only gas station between an area where a lot of people live and the closest freeway that a lot of those people drive to in order to get to work. They got caught raising their prices for the morning and afternoon commutes. It actually became a pretty big scandal and they they were investigated.
From what I understand the local leaders told them that if they caught them doing that again they would file charges with the state and have the state attorney general investigate them. It was such a big deal here in town that they lost a lot of business and it really ended up biting them in the ass.
