This is what I've been trying to say.
But since the US really did invent and create the Internet, the organizational infrastructure is still under their control. They are in the proverbial catbird seat. In the past they've taken a low profile, but with so much tax dollars lost in commercial revenue you can expect this sort of thing to continue, and probably expand.
Whether the UN or EU or anyone else balks depends on whether they are willing to admit that it's okay to use the Internet for illegal activity. Not likely to happen as long as the domain seizures are clear cut.
