I gotta go with the 'hiding from everybody in a fake nick' guy here. This shit has been going on for years. Hell, there's some of it that's so much more aggressive than a checkbox, too - I had to threaten to pull my accounts before BofA would stop trying to 'enroll' me in some stupid $20/mo credit report scheme.
