Last month I flew out to Vegas to meet some of my friends from LA for some gambling and golfing. One of my friends got a comped room at The Palazzo and had his choice of comped $500 to spend on slots or table games. He's a big blackjack player and would normally always choose the comp chips for blackjack, but decided he'd just have some fun with the slots as he never plays them. He was given a card with the comped credits and he wanted to burn through them quick so we headed to the high limit slots.

He was planning on playing $5 slots and found a bunch in the high limit room. Without really looking closely at the machine he puts his comp card in decides to play $200 of the $500 on the card. Right before he pulls the lever I stop him as I notice that it wasn't a $5 machine, but rather a $100 machine. The machine looked like one where the casino could change the denomination and it was at the bottom and not real visible. My friend is pissed and tries to cash out the $200, but the machine won't let him cash out the comp as he has to play through it. So he decides to just play two pulls at $100 each. The first pull he hits for 180 credits, which is $18,000. Nice way to start off the trip, just plain dumb luck.
