So in the same context as fatfoo's post, an affiliate program needs 1000's of little affiliates and cannot survive on 1 big whale.

You might consider looking up Pareto's law. I'm willing to bet that for almost any given affiliate program, that somewhere around 20% of their affiliates make up 80% of their income.
