How did the dollar being backed by gold do anything for the average citizen? I would not want go to back to the 50's personally. Many people were very poor, the KKK was strong as hell and lynching black people wasn't something seen as wrong. Most young men had to drop out of school to help support their families. Women were considered property and the government used its citizens as gineau pigs. Sure, some of this still goes on but its much harder to hide. I am all for bringing jobs back to the US though.
