Fraud and hoax are not too strong to describe this situation.
Global Warming proponents did not do thorough science. They operated from a political goal, not a goal of truth. They falsified and hid data. They intentionally forged results. They intentionally did bad science to get a particular result.
What they did in misleading Congress and the US government might even be criminal.
