There was a security system that failed. Fix the cause, learn from it and move along. It's not like the people of BP WANTED this to happen. They paid a lot of people money to make sure it dident. They might also have paid people not to check, but that is part of the reason for the whold disaster to begin with, as I mentioned before.

The answer to the current problems is not to turn the whole world in to North Korea or Iran.
Valid point to a degree.

However, there are some mistakes that are not excusable.

If I drink and drive a couple of times I lose the right to drive my car. That's the rule. If I don't like it, I don't have to drive but that's not going to stop millions from driving and 100s of 1000s from driving drunk.

If I beat my kid or even spank him just a little too hard, I can lose my child to the state. But I'll still spank my child when I need to.

If I get caught picking up a street hooker in some cities, they literally confiscate my car and I lose it forever. That didn't stop me from going on the creep.

If you get 3 felonies, you go to prison FOR LIFE. Yet people keep committing felony crime.

Rules are rules. If you fuck up and cross the lines, you lose. That's not North Korea talking, that is the USA and they impose those same rules on normal citizens. You can bet your ASS if you or I dumped all that oil into the gulf, we would at the very least go to prison.

Harsh rules will not grind business to a halt. They will just be more careful, and if they screw up, they lose the right to work that job. I'm all for it.
