Basically you have teaser clips on the outside (say 30seconds of the vid), and when they pay they get access to the whole video. I don't know why it works, but its defiantely doign better nowadays then the traditional paysite model.
If you do it with small niches that aren't oversaturated yet (say, balloon fetish videos or something), it is hugely successful.
