Within my Amerinoc reseller account...
To be able to edit my WP themes within WP's interface the files have to be set to 777. Of course I can change them back to their original permissions after I'm done editing. Rather than going through all this I edit them through DA's file manager or via FTP. One other thing, It's been a few weeks since I set up my sites but I think that there was a plugin that I wanted to use but it wouldn't work unless it was set to 777, I think I chose not to use it after all.
I also use a script on a couple of other domains that writes to files in several directories. This script ran fine on my primary server with permissions set as 755 but I have to have the directories & files on my Amerinoc plan set to 777 for it to be able to work.
None of my sites on Amerinoc are particularly high traffic and are primarily set-it-and-forget-it type sites. I got the plan so I could get my adult sites off my "mainstream server". If any of these Amerinoc sites do get hacked I'll try reupping from backups or just start over again from scratch.
Good luck
