No amount of inhouse traffic is enough to cancel out affiliates. For every company getting their own traffic and not wanting affiliates there is 3 out there dying for my clicks.

i think this is the point exactly. There are far too many affiliate programs out there. Affiliates stick with what works for them. Getting a good affiliate to change links is VERY hard, even if you offer a superior product.

I think the affiliate program model as we know it is dead/dying. The model is changing. Programs will work to be less dependent on affiliate traffic and more dependent on media buy and core "partners". I believe Shap said this in another thread. Why focus on hundreds of affiliates who send only a few sales a month when you can focus on a few core affiliate partners that have enough traffic to justify the custom ad tools, etc required by affiliates today?
