Chris comes off in interviews a well spoken man, one who has spoken English his entire life. That statement was not written by someone who has English as their mother tongue.

No good basis for it? Sorry but I simply refuse to believe he wrote that. I have worked with outsourced people long enough to recognize something written by someone who has English as a second language.
You sell/recommend press releases. Are you going to tell me that press release is professional and properly written. We get it, you love Chris Mallick, but come on. There are better ways to word a meaningless statement than that and I am sure there are several PR writers in this industry that could have easily created a well executed statement that said nothing but was 100% fluff that would have made people confident.
Things like
Our extensive meetings with all parties involved have led to some meaningful progress but the situation at this point is not completely resolved so we continue to work around the clock to get these issues resolved blah blah
