See, you're putting CM on too high of a pedestal. What you describe you'd do is right and what CM is doing is wrong.
You cannot necessarily judge someone solely on their past successes. Many of the once mighty have fallen hard and CM is not immune to that possibility.
That is what has people worried ... especially with the lack of transparency in his businesses.
He may have made God knows how much money but he may have also lost God knows how much. We know of a single $20+ million bet that he lost. If there are others that we don't know about he could be up shits creek no matter his track record.
Fortunes are made and lost every day.
It isn't the known that has people worried -- we know very little -- it's the unknown that everybody is afraid of. As this drags on more and more things that were was unknown are coming to light.
