I agree that a person's hard work is what determines success, and never-ending dedication. Sometimes - and I'm so guilty of this - we who work hard forget about "lag time": our efforts may take a few days or weeks or even months to "pay off" so we bust our nuts for 16 hours a day for a solid week, see no increase in sales, and freak out a little bit (or a lot). LOL I'm learning to take a slightly (slightly) longer view of things.

Yeap, lag time is important too, not everyone buys the first time they hit a site. But for the most part, if you neglect your stuff for any amount of time it will go down. I don't care where you get your traffic from. People will move from one site to the next, Sites will change, Competition will creep up on you, no time for slackers!
