The only time I ever got to look through a real telecope was at the Down Planeteriam here in Montreal about 10 years ago when there was a partial yet big eclipse of the sun. It was amazing.
If I had a telecope I would take it camping and look at the night sky all night long.
Which reminds me: Has anyone here tried taking time-lapse photos of the night sky?
I tried it with a Cannon D80 but all the pictures filled up with noise regardless of my isp or shutter speeds. I wanted to buy a faster lens just for this purpose but I don't know if it would help or not.
Any ideas?

I think on a DSLR you should take photos ever 2-5 minutes and then blend them together to get star trails. Don't go over 30 second exposures. I haven't done it myself but from what I read that's the way to get around the noise that pops up when the sensor is used for long exposures.
