Signs that you have been deemed a viable sex partner by another female are often taken as validation by other females. Nobody wants a guy that nobody wants.
It's probably mostly subconcious, but I don't doubt more than a few are aware of the phenomenon. This is why it seems like when it rains it pours, and it seems like opportunities to cheat are everywhere when you are in a relationship.
