its probably best to not value gold at all :P
the US economy had non-stop growth and price inflation for decades. prices went too high to be sustainable.
prices will adjust downward and the economy will level out. it will take years for that to happen but it will happen.
companies like coke say they can't afford to sell a bottle of coke for less than $1, but they sell the same bottle of coke in Thailand for 30-40 cents.
the US is on the high side of the teeter totter, but the US is just a tiny blip of splattered cock juice on the history of civilization. i live amidst a people who havent changed much in 5,000 years.
