I've taken a mule with a bow, but you can literally walk up on them bedded down and yell right at them and half the time they'll turn around to look at you and see what you're doing. Mule deer are a draw back home, unless you hunt with a primitive weapon. So a lot of guys will hunt just the mule deer in the early season. I've been thinking about getting into muzzleloading myself. I would like to do more archery, I'm just more confident in my ability to make a clean kill with a rifle...

Only white tail out this way. No Mule deer. Some of my buddies get one every year during archery season. The season lasts about a full month before shotgun so it has its advantages as far as getting in the field before things get stirred up.
