Celebs, although they may be trend setters for the mainstream, usually are a couple years late latching onto the more experimental designers who go about their work quietly neither interested in fame nor mass branding. If anything Rick is falling out of favor simply because his work is becoming more visible in the mainstream. I was talking to a boutique owner the other day who stopped carrying his line simply because of this. Like Margiela's tabi boots that all of a sudden became popular when Sarah Jessica Parker started wearing them even though he had been producing them for years. Sure lots of lame kids in the suburbs are going to try to emulate Lenny's look on the dime but that doesn't say anything other than the mainstream looks to celebs for inspiration 'cause they are too lazy/insecure to develop their own style. In this instance Lenny is hardly a trend setter.
