If you are coming to the US you can get some great deals on vrbo.com. You just have to pick out places that are run like a serviced apartment as opposed to a house swap style place.
My buddy has been having a hell of a time renting his vacation home in San Diego even after slashing prices from previous years. So I think there's some deals to be had.
