Yes, some folks have been able to promote a bit through forums and made some sales here and there.
No, it's not profitable compared to when stuff was not pirated. It's like pocket change comparatively.
The people I have on ignore are people that I'm sick of harassing me. I look back over time and see nothing that they have ever contributed except to troll and insult me. So fuck them. And if you have a problem with me putting people on Ignore...fuck you too. I'll put your ass on there too.
I'm interested in knowledge and learning. Not arguing or smart ass remarks. If somebody wants to disagree with what I'm saying and debate it back and forth on a subject that's fine. I love hashing shit out like that.
And if a person has more experience on a subject than I do and has a record of success at it...then I'm gonna sit under the learning tree.
But the folks I put on ignore have none of that going for them. I'm not going to be insulted by clowns who I run circles around in this business.

As for how you THINK things work...that's cool. But just like I do...maybe when it's a subject that you are interested in but you're talking to someone with more knowledge and experience in that particular thing...maybe, just maybe you should listen and learn.
