I was just thinking along the lines of a main niche domain, with micro niche specific posts, riding high in the SEs for a load of different keywords pointing in from his micro niche sub domains.

Would be easier to get his mini blogs ranking well with the keywords in the subdomain and the posts on them all revolving around that keyword than single posts on the core domain.
