The reality is that we have added private sector jobs every month for 8 straight months. Most months it was between 40-100K jobs. The problem is that the number is small. That is why the unemployment rate states where it is or goes up or down by a marginal amount.
Part of the reason is this. Back in May/June we had a ton (some estimates were as many as 3 million) people enter the job market. These are students who graduated high school or college and now are entering the job market. So we might add 75-100K jobs, but there are millions of new people now looking for work. Also there are a lot of people who left the job market and are now getting back into it. An example of that would be a friend of mine's wife. Two years ago she lost her job. She decided to stay home with their youngest child and be a stay at home mom for a couple of years. Now that child is going to school a full day so she went back out and started looking for a job again.
So there are jobs being created, it is just such a small amount it can't keep up with those now entering or re-entering the workforce. Obama and company are going to have to do a whole lot better if they want to see the unemployment rate start to drop.
