Having seen every episode of each. Simpsons overall is funnier than Family Guy.
Family Guy is very funny. Toilet type humor and jokes on the handicap and race and ethnic jokes are awesome. The writing over all comes no where near to the Simpsons. The types of humor in the 2 are almost 2 different ends of the spectrum. The social commentary is very similar, but the overall shots are better taken on the Simpsons.
