It depends. I the primary elections most states only allow party members to vote in their election. So if you are a registered democrat you can only vote during the democratic primary, not the republican primary (although some states have open primaries where anyone can vote for any candidate).
When the primaries are over and it is time for the general election you can vote for anyone you want regardless of party.

i wouldn't want to be registered as anything, if i vote i make up my mind based on the current situation and options
