I don't eat a lot of processed meats as is, but I'm going to try to make a conscious effort to stay away from foods that are too overly processed in the future.

you're right - the processing afterwards is the main risk - the adding of all things that don't belong in food. i can only suggest to read the smallprint on the packaging before you buy something - or only use fresh ingredients. but thats not very convenient and unfortunately i am also too lazy for that
