I second that phplinkdirectory will work well for and is open source. I will add OpenLD to that list good opensource directory apps that are currently maintained and have an active forum. There is GippleDee which is mature but the free version is lite.
Don't let the sourceforge dates fool you, each of these apps are current for 2010
You should go to sourceforge.net which is an open source repository and get all three and test them to see which you like the most.
