Okay so we took our little 8 pound girl dog to the vet yesterday. She wasn't herself but she has been in heat and gets a little weird. We have been battling fleas too and she is allergic to them and its pretty tough on her. I just didn't want something bad to be wrong with her, but didn't think anything was really too wrong with her since she's been eating and barking at people so we took her in.
Almost $500 bucks later they ran every test they could, found nothing. She was all good, temp fine, they gave her an ultrasound nothing wrong with uterus, the dog was allergic to fleas they told us. We already knew that, we battle fleas her like crazy and flea bathe her and treat stuff as best we can, etc.
So they gave her two dewormers orally and told us to get antihistamines and heart worm meds which we did (but didn't give her any yet).
This morning 5 am the dog is on the floor in full seizure foaming at the mouth. We found bloody vomit, took her to the emergency vet. They gave her valium and seizure meds and an iv. Now she is back at the vet we were at yesterday.
This vet right away started saying it must be something worse, was going to send us to a specialist, until I brought in the towels with her bloody vomit. He said it couldn't be the dewormer, in 20 years he's never seen a reaction.
Now I look this shit up, they gave her TWO dewormers orally, and one it says should not be given with another. The doctor said he gives those together all the time no problem, to kittens etc.
Anyways just talked to the vet again right now inbetween typing this. The dog is still sedated and we have to see what she is like when the drugs wear off. They are saying maybe when they dewormed her one died and got into her brain. This is fucking terrible, my poor doggie.
Anyone know anything about these dewormers? They didn't even find any parasites but do this just in case. I am so heartbroken I don't even think I have the energy to blame it on the vet right now but seriously, could it be these dewormers?
They gave her droncit and strongid. If the dog doesn't come out ok we are going to put her down.
