i'm sorry to hear about your dog. many vets are not known to be the sharpest tools in the shed and they usually do procedures to simply add to the bill and get more money from the owner, knowing how much owners love their pets.
if possible, i would go to another vet that is referred or has a stellar reputation in your neighborhood.
i hope your dog pulls through. i'd be heartbroken if something happened to my little guy.
