too many people in very bad poverty. India as a whole will advance, but the social gap will just divide even more over time, a small portion will keep advancing and crawl out of the slums over generations and live in nice cities or parts of cities, the other 900 million will live in shit conditions. There is now way they going to be able to move that many people up. I don't see them ever really have much of a middle class. Unless people making $2 an hour count as middle class. You going to have the poor, the slum poor and the rich.
