Sounds like a scam.
Lol, I remember when I was a kid, we were in JC Penney and my mom wanted to buy some item, and the salesman told her she could get 10 percent off by applying for the JC Penney card. They brought out an application for the card. It had the standard "How much do you make, how much do you have in your checking account? etc"
I remember my dad telling them that it was none of their damn business. They got some manager from the headquarters on the phone and dad told them as long as he paid his bills it was none of their damn business to know any personal information besides his address and phone number.
Surprisingly, he was approved and mom got whatever the thing was that she wanted.
