So the last 2 months we worked on some nice innovating mainstream project. The goal was to develop a touchscreen application for child day care organisations so they could improve their work and be more efficient to skip all the manual paper work.

What we did:
1st we made an html5 version that was running on a 22 inch touchscreen (portrait mode) user interface as a giant iphone but later we decided to re-code it in Flex and deploy the apps as AIR packages because offline data syncing in html5 sucks.

The idea is that each child group in a daycare organisation has its own touch screen, where the teachers can do and see everything, like scheduling, mailing, make photos from the child, assign them when a child is brought or picked up, child contacts, allergies, diapering, sleeping/feeding and drinking schedules, it offers all.

The platform offers several backends for the managers of the child day care organisation including CRM, invoicing and financial auditing.

All is running on Ruby on Rails on a Heroku (PaAs platform), so no headaches about server management and stuff.

Soon we are going to start coding html5 clients for parental access so they can see the progress, development and later live monitoring of their children.

Our client is busy to market this platform will be deployed all over Europe in 2011.

After blueprinting and developing live cam platforms this project was one that really opened our eyes of the future of web technology.

The next mainstream project will be a another touch screen project to automate all the Dutch pubs, where each pub will get its own touch screen to function as a music player, light management, automated stock management and cms so each pub can update their own site from the touch screen.

It also includes html5 clients where the waitresses will have get Android 2.2 devices to take orders from the customers.

What I try to say with this is that there are enough areas to innovate and monetize, just follow the new technologies, learn and try to adapt them in your own business activities.
