:stoned Genesis - A Musical Revelation in Videos - Enjoy...

Today is the first day in over a month that I have been able to relax a little. I've been busy almost non-stop with various projects, large and small, and at last I have a little time for myself...

Therefore, I decided to play some reflective music. Genesis has been one of my favorite bands for decades, so I put several of their CDs in my player and hit the random play button.

The first song that played, is one of the most beautiful and melancholic songs I know of, Ripples:

As a young guitarist, I loved playing hard rock, but also enjoyed listening to what was referred to as Progressive Rock, which was a sub-genre of music personified by bands such as Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, The Moody Blues, and Yes.

Genesis first came to my attention in the early 70's. The first song I remember hearing was "The Musical Box" off of the Nursery Cryme album (Peter Gabriel looks so young in this video):

For sheer talent and mastery of their instruments, and haunting melodies, Genesis quickly became one of my favorite of the Progressive Rock bands. They were also one of my favorite bands to get stoned and listen to, as well, with their at times profound, at times trippy, lyrics:

Many people are familiar with the latter day 1980's Phil Collins led Genesis line-up, but my favorite period was when Peter Gabriel was the front man for the band. To me, Genesis reached their apex with their epic double album "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" (this is a Genesis cover band performing an amazingly faithful version of Lamb):
