Trying an interesting experiment with TV I keep on in the background

Preface: I took 3 years of Spanish in high school and a semester in college, but with that being nearly 10 years ago that I last took a class and non-usage since then, most of it has left the noggin. I have pretty good recall though, plus I had taken Latin for a year in high school as well, so a lot of times I can piece together what words mean once I hear them.

I live alone and keep the TV on a lot for background noise...I usually am not looking at it...it's just there so it's not so quiet here, but when I eat and otherwise every now and then, I pay closer attention to it. Daytime TV is however pretty shitty...I used to watch the judge shows but those started getting old pretty quickly. Seen one Springer seen them all, etc.

So the past few days, I've actually been putting the TV on Spanish TV because even knowing about 30% of what's said (if they spoke slower maybe 50%) and having an understanding of about 60% of what's going on if I'm actively watching it, it's more entertaining than most other daytime TV as sad as that sounds. I think I may make this a longer-term habit and see if it helps spark the Spanish back...between my step-mother and her whole family being Mexican (and most of them not speaking English) and living somewhat near Mexico, it would just be nice to know Spanish if not speak it. I think that simply hearing it a lot more often even if I'm not paying attention to it all the time will sink in subconsciously and will help bring my Spanish back.

Do any of you try anything like this with background TV/audio stuff while you work, i.e. trying to make it somewhat constructive?
