I can write something more that is of a higher quality. Forces can be separated into ground forces, air forces and navy forces. Moving a huge marching army on the ground means that camps and food need to be provided. It's possible that every soldier carries a metal spoon and metal bowl. Brujah talked about accounting. Shelters, food, clothing, weapons, armor, cattle - all this is a lot of resources. It's hard to lead an army when the coffers have little gold left. An army might try to raid an enemy encampment to take their food, weapons, artillery, slaves/prisoners, gold, precious stones, metals and more.
