I'm not as into McLaughlin's more recent recorded work, but I will still go see him live any chance I get. It has been a while since I last caught him, which was in a quintet with Dennis Chambers on drums and Pino Palladino on bass.... pretty amazing show.

One of the best concerts I ever attended was a twinbill featuring Mahavishnu Orchestra (touring in support of Visions of the Emerald Beyond), and Jeff Beck (touring in support of Blow By Blow). Both John McLaughlin and Jeff Beck, came out and jammed during each other's performance - pure guitar magic.
