Tam

I was about 23 or so at the time and my dad and I never got along, not even close. I walk into Hardee's on my lunch hour to get my lunch and a girl I went to school with that was about 2 years younger than me was working there, the place was packed and crazy busy. I worked in a factory at the time and that's where we all headed for lunch, any fast food place. So this girl yells all the way from one end of the counter to the other, "Tam, have you talked to your dad lately?" and I said "No not in a long time, why?" (saying why was my first mistake). so anyway, I never dreamed what was coming next, and I wanted to crawl into a hole and never come out, I was standing there with 90% of the people I work with. So she says "I have a date with him tonight and haven't been able to reach him and thought you may know what is going on."

I must have looked like someone hit me in the gut, I never even looked up, just got my lunch and walked out. When I got back to work, I was getting these "aww, poor thing" looks. I've never before or since been so embarrassed.
