If programs could mostly send payments on time for the last ten years then there is no excuse for them not doing so in 2010. A legitimate sponsor who knows how to properly run a business should have no problem with this. IMO, anyone "dragging their feet" needs to be dropped. And if someone gets rude when you nicely ask for your money then you need to tell them where to go because you shouldn't have to ask in the first place.

And btw, not paying your affiliates is more like a business not being able to make payroll to it's employees than it is not being able to pay an invoice for a good or service (such as hosting). The affiliate sent the sales, the sponsor has the revenue, so the affiliate needs to be paid their cut as agreed.
Frasier said it...

i've recently come to the state of mind that keeping an eye on payments & programs is just part of the job. i don't expect them all to screw me. but i always watch my own back as if they all would. commend the sponsors that pay on time, chase down the ones that 'forgot', drop the ones that don't.

frankly, we're not their employees, just like they're not our bosses. it's a business agreement. either party can term the agreement at any time. and if you owe them money, all you can do is sue.

if you've ever worked for a small or medium sized company, they are always chasing down money they are owed, getting paid late, getting partial payments, etc etc. but the same company that is stiffing the small business will always make sure their rent or insurance or whatever is paid.

i'm NOT saying that affiliate programs should start making us all invoice them and then pay us 30 days later. i just think the whole 'you better pay me on time every time or else' attitude we affiliates carry around is a little inflated
