For traffic wise drupal can handle high traffic sites much better then joomla. MTV UK, whitehouse gov has made in drupal and few others high traffic sites. Security in drupal is better then in joomla. Although, it's easier to made site in joomla then in drupal.
In short, if you make site for others go with joomla but if you like to make good site for you go with drupal.
