Some are speculating that it's another move in the fight against Facebook. In particular, the new FB 'Deals' feature. I don't think Google's primary concern at the moment is making more money. Obviously that will always be a concern, but it makes sense that they want to get into a new competitive area. Could just be coincidence that this acquisition competes with a Facebook project, but it does seems as though the two are fighting inn a bit of a power struggle right now. 1 in 4 daily American pages requests right now is for Facebook. They've topped the list as the most visited site online. This could easily be more of an intended stab at Facebook, than it is an intended revenue stream, though it will serve as both.
