Groupon isn't a bad idea, but imo the offers are not that great and there are a lot of fine lines to take in consideration.
I tried it for a Moroccan restaurant, paid $12 for $25 voucher; we went to the restaurant for lunch and were told we could not order any lunch special, we had to order from the regular menu where items were almost double the price from the lunch specials.
People in tables next to us had ordered the same exact thing. When the food came out, we realized it was the same amount of food. The only difference was they paid $7 for a plate that cost us $14.
In the end we saved $1 I think. So nothing earth shattering. One of my wife's friend had bought a laser hair removal package at supposedly 80%. Well, it turned out to be the same "in-the-door" offer where you find out that it really does not include anything and you must be up-sold quite a bit to really get what you thought you wanted to get. It's like buying a membership to a porn site for $.99 a month only to find out that you need to pay another $29 to see the videos, otherwise, you are stuck with pictures only...
