Spanish prostitutes wear protective vest

Spanish prostitutes have been told to wear safety vests for their own safety. According to reports, it is for safety reason to wear a reflective vest and if you violate you will face ?40 ($56) fine.

Prostitution is legal in Spain although it is a criminal offense for a person to profit from the prostitution of another. Somehow prostitution is banned or have restrictions in some cities and towns. Spanish city of Lleida, bans the street prostitution. However, lack of the safety vests is not the only reason to fine the women, another reason is for creating danger on the public highway. These drives them to outside city limits.

However, the mayor of Els Alamus, Josep Maria Bea, told Spanish media that the fact that the women use reflective vests does not solve the problem of prostitution in the municipality.

There are an estimated 300,000 female sex workers in Spain, according to the Telegraph. Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodrígue Zapatero promised to ban prostitution ads in newspapers, but has failed to do so. Meanwhile, a recent survey showed that one in four Spanish men admitted to paying for sex.

At some point, the authorities might easily spot the hookers wearing a reflective vest, but it might create a backlash from the public for exposing them thus endangers their work? Or the city just want a piece of the pie from their effort.
