LA City Dept of Water and Power used to do one in Griffith Park that was pretty intense. I have not checked it out in years, so not sure its status.

There are businesses that have sprung up around this. Not only to put up and take down lights, but there are vendors renting golf carts to ride through the neighborhood, people selling hot chocolate, stuff like that.
