It's more about a step by step erosion of your freedoms. Not only that, before too long, if they have their way, almost all citizens will run afoul of some law or the the other. It's not a stretch from there to see that when the government develops a hard on for you, maybe because you don't walk the party line, or you are a voice of dissent, you will be hammered into the ground by the state. Make no mistake, as odd as some of the things they write into legislation are, they are there to serve a purpose.
