Studies were conducted in the late '50s which revealed that a square steering wheel was much safer for the average driver and improved entry/exit characteristics of the vehicle.
Chrysler used square wheels on non-tilt-wheel cars from 1960 though 1964.

This car has a theoretical top end of around 150 MPH because of the power pack option.
I've had it to 130 and then chickened out 'cause I was worried about the tires.
