That makes sense but I think some affiliates who have had bad experiences with other programs like to keep the message general just to get an initial response. It used to be that for payment issues the bad programs would ignore you if you mentioned "payments" in your initial message. This way you verify that someone is definitely getting your messages and you can't be blown off or delayed as easily without knowing something is up. I imagine for some it can become a bad habit. 90% of the time when I contact a program on ICQ it is for a payment related issue.

so in the future you start with "hey, hit me up when you have time to discuss how i can send you more traffic" and when they reply you start with "but you have to pay me first"
