I have never sent a message to anyone there but I get 4-5 new messages every day, sad to say their nearly all dogs. I even made the mistake of meeting a few in person and none of them looked like the photos in their profiles. I think a lot depends on your age. If your in your 20`s or 30`s you will struggle to meet someone on a dating website, but once you get past 40 its like things go in reverse. The older I get the more women I get. There are 2 reasons, first men die younger then women, so the odds will shift in mens favour, but the real teller is that by 40 most men have gone through a divorce or two so they are so broke, mentally and emotionally destroyed that most give up on women. This leaves more women then men in the market.
Not too sure what your age is, but add an extra 10 years to your profile and watch the messages start pouring in.
