The issue I have is that the explanations don't seem to pass simple logical tests.
The explanations are:
1) Fireworks: Problem with this is why don't we see dead birds every Fourth of July?
2) Weather (hail, storm, etc): There are tens of thousands of storms on Earth at any one time. There are actually over 8 million lightning strikes per day. With all that storm activity and the billions of birds on Earth, these things would happen all the time and experts would be aware of it and even probably have a name for it. But they don't.
